India Finish Asian Games Fourth With 85 Medals, Led by Athletics, Shooting and Archery

India finished the 2026 Asian Games in fourth place on the medal table with 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals, 85 in all, when the Games in Aichi-Nagoya closed on Sunday. China won 169 golds to top the table, ahead of Japan (83) and South Korea (39). India finished level with Uzbekistan on 21 golds but took fourth place on silvers, 27 to 25.

Athletics produced the biggest haul, 24 medals, though only one was gold: the women's 4x400 m relay. Shooting added 15 medals, including eight silvers. Archery was the biggest source of golds, with five: the women's team, mixed team and men's team compound events, the women's team recurve and the women's individual recurve. Boxing delivered three golds through Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal, wrestling two through Sujeet Kalkal and Aman Sehrawat, and Pranavi Urs won the women's individual golf title.

The remaining golds came in team sports. India won both the men's and women's titles in cricket, hockey and kabaddi.

Five athletes won three medals each: Neeru Dhanda (two golds and a silver in shooting), Kumkum Mohod (two golds and a silver in archery), Vithya Ramraj (a relay gold, a mixed relay silver and a 400 m hurdles bronze), Rudrankksh Patil (two silvers and a bronze in shooting) and Gulveer Singh (two silvers and a bronze in distance running). Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi each won two golds in archery.

The Asian Para Games open in the same region on 18 October and run until 24 October.
