India thrashed Sri Lanka by 124 runs in the second semi-final of the men's cricket competition at the Asian Games on Thursday, bowling out their opponents for just 45 — the lowest total in Sri Lanka's T20I history — to set up a gold medal match against Pakistan.
Put in to field after losing the toss, India posted 169 for 7 in their 20 overs at Kōrogi Sports Park, built around an unbeaten 80 off 46 balls from Ishan Kishan. Sahan Arachchige was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers, finishing with 2 for 28 from his four overs.
Sri Lanka's reply never got going. Abhishek Sharma picked up 2 for 2 in five balls as the innings folded for 45 in just 9.5 overs, with Nuwanidu Fernando's 15 off 11 balls the top score. Three Sri Lankan players — Sohan de Livera, Sineth Jayawardena and Wanuja Sahan — were making their T20I debuts in the match.
India will meet Pakistan in the gold medal match on 3 October at the same venue, with Bangladesh facing Sri Lanka for bronze earlier the same day.
