India won four gold medals in a single day at the Asian Games on Wednesday — three in archery, one in shooting — taking the country's tally from six golds to ten and lifting it to 7th on the medal table.
The day started with the women's team compound archery gold, where Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep beat China 238-234 in the final, a score that equalled the world record for the event. It was a title defence for India and a fourth Asian Games gold for Vennam, while Taniparthi and Pradeep won it on their Games debut.
Taniparthi returned a few hours later for the mixed team compound gold alongside Sahil Jadhav, beating South Korea in a shoot-off after the two sides finished level at 157-157. India shot a 10 in the decider to South Korea's 9 for the 20-19 win, having beaten Thailand 156-155 in the semi-final. The result also secures India a quota place for the LA 2028 Olympics in the event.
Kynan Chenai and Neeru Dhanda won the mixed trap team gold in shooting, hitting 34 targets to beat Qatar (32) and China (23, bronze) — a new Asian Games record. It's Dhanda's second gold in under 24 hours, coming a day after she won India's first individual gold of the Games in the women's trap.
India's fourth gold of the day came in the men's team compound archery, where Kushal Dalal, Sahil Jadhav and T. G. Mani Ratnam beat China 238-237 after trailing for most of the final — all three Indian archers shot a perfect 10 on the last end to get there. They'd beaten South Korea 236-229 in the semi-final. It was Jadhav's second gold of the day, after the mixed team event.
India now have 10 gold, 21 silver and 28 bronze — 59 medals in total — and sit 7th on the table, level on gold with Iran but ahead on silver.
