Smriti Mandhana Named India Women's Captain in ODIs and T20Is

Smriti Mandhana has been appointed captain of India's women's team in ODIs and T20Is, the BCCI announced on Tuesday, the same day Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down from the job.

Mandhana, who had been vice-captain, will lead as full-time white-ball captain. She has previously led India in 18 T20Is and four ODIs. She called the appointment "a very special honour".

The BCCI president, Mithun Manhas, and honorary secretary, Devajit Saikia, announced the decision. Both pointed to her experience and temperament for the role.

Mandhana also captains Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women's Premier League, leading them to the title in 2024 and again in 2026.

Squads for the T20I and ODI series against Zimbabwe were announced the same day.

The announcement covers ODIs and T20Is only. None of the reports I read says who will captain India in Tests.
