Shreyas Iyer hit an unbeaten 102 off 43 balls, his maiden T20I century, as India beat West Indies by eight wickets in the first T20I at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday. India chased down 172 with 32 balls to spare.
Iyer, India's T20I captain, hit ten fours and six sixes and was named Player of the Match. Ishan Kishan added 37 not out off 27 balls. Sanju Samson (11) and Abhishek Sharma (21) fell early, to Akeal Hosein and Roston Chase.
West Indies, asked to bat after India won the toss and chose to field, were all out for 171 in 19.1 overs. Sherfane Rutherford top-scored with 56 off 34 balls and Shai Hope made 52 off 37.
Naman Dhir, on his T20I debut, took 3 for 31. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets each, and Shimron Hetmyer was run out. Hosein played his 100th T20I.
India won the ODI series 2-1 and now lead the five-match T20I series 1-0. The second T20I is on Friday, 9 October.
